MTCC contacted development projects in five islands

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for the reclamation of land in two islands and the development of harbours in three islands. The agreement was signed by the Director General Fatimath Shana Farooq and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim.

The five projects awarded to MTCC include land reclamation and shore protection for a picnic island in the Thinadhoo Industrial Zone in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Dhiffushi in Kaafu Atoll, and the development of harbours in Huraa in Kaafu Atoll. Gaadhiffushi in Thaa Atoll and Feydhoo in Addu City.

Under the project for the picnic island in Thinadhoo, a total of 65,296cbm of land 474m of revetment, and 50m groynes. It also includes two jetties for easy access to the picnic island. The project has been awarded to MTCC with a completion date of 300 days at a cost USD3.7 million.

The project in Dhiffushi includes the dredging of 22.97sqm of land, the installation of a 710m stone revetment to protect the beach, and the establishment of 670m groyne. The project also includes the repair of 270m groyne and 300m revetment. MTCC was awarded the contract for USD10.9 million with a completion date of 450 days.

The project for the development of the harbour in Feydhoo includes the reclamation of 75,398cbm land, a 5,320m canal, and the installation of a breakwater. In addition, an access platform, two concrete bridges, 35 road signs, and 2,040sqm of concrete pavement will be constructed. The total cost of the project is USD5.1 million and MTCC has been given 540 days to complete the project.

The project for the development of the harbour in Gaadhiffushi includes excavation of 47,243cbm of sand, canal dredging, laying of 227m revetment, laying of 289m breakwater, and laying of 252m breakwater. The project also includes the construction of 1,365sqm of concrete pavement and one jetty. The total cost of the project is USD5.5 million and MTCC has been given 580 days to complete the project.

The project for the development of the harbour in Huraa includes dredging of 26,453cbm, dredging of 5.445cbm canal, and 210m revetment. The project also includes the installation of 19 mooring buoys, 32 street lights, two navigational lights, 1,795sqm pavement, a concrete bridge, and a concrete jetty. The total cost of the project is USD4.3 million and MTCC has been given 540 days to complete the project.
