Gov't contracts to build 30 housing units in Komandoo

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Private Limited (RCC) to complete the construction of 30 housing units in Komandoo, Shaviyani Atoll. The agreement was signed by the Projects Director of RCC Adam Rasheem and Director General Ahmed Vishan Naseem on behalf of the ministry.

RCC is expected to complete the project within 300 days at a cost of USD2.7 million from the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) budget. As per the agreement, RCC is tasked with the construction of 30 two-storey rowhouses of 700sqft. Each unit will have three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, and laundry as well as a store room. The project also includes the construction of walls surrounding the buildings, lights, a children's playground, and a parking zone in the area.

Komandoo has a population of 2,000 residents and has a longstanding housing problem with large families having to live in one room for generations. To address the issue, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to connect Komandoo and Mathikomandoo. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is undertaking the project to link the islands with a 200m bridge.
