MDP to file complaint over meeting hall vandalism

The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that it will file a complaint over the vandalism of its main meeting hall in Male’ City.

In a press release, MDP stated that it has a signed agreement with the owner to operate the meeting hall for political activities on the land plot and that a verbal agreement was made to continue using the hall until the upcoming presidential election. However, MDP noted that vandals entered the meeting hall and caused damage to the party's property at a time when it was involved in a case at the Civil Court with the owner, who violated the agreement. MDP stated that it has requested the court to permit the party to use the meeting hall until July 31 while it searches for an alternative location for its activities.

Additionally, MDP highlighted that it has always advocated for planned and organised political action and stated that trespassing and damaging property over political differences is cowardly behaviour. The party warned that it will take the matter to the relevant authorities to take action against those involved in the act.
