Minister of Education, Dr. Aishath Ali, has announced the government is actively overseeing the development of 1,700 classrooms in schools as part of ongoing projects. The statement was made during the inauguration ceremony of a new multi-purpose hall at a school in Bilehdhoo, Faafu Atoll.
During the ceremony, Minister Aishath emphasised the administration's education policy prioritises equipping every student with the skills and knowledge to become valuable members of their communities. She highlighted the significance of teaching students both the official curriculum and proper behavior.
Furthermore, Minister Aishath revealed that the government has allocated USD84 million to facilitate single-session schooling in schools, and many of these schools have already commenced classes. She added that there are currently 247 infrastructure projects underway, which include the development of 1,716 classrooms, 92 multipurpose halls, and 563 other facilities such as laboratories, libraries, staff rooms, and office buildings.
The inauguration of the new multipurpose hall at the school in Bilehdhoo was attended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed. The event is part of the government's broader efforts to enhance educational infrastructure throughout the country. Inoca Private Limited was responsible for constructing the multipurpose hall, which has a capacity of 500 people and was built at a cost of USD519,000.
