Nilandhoo Island Council shares their concerns with President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has held a meeting with members of the Nilandhoo Island Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC). The meeting took place at the secretariat of Nilandhoo Council as part of his official visit to Faafu Atoll.

During the meeting, President Solih expressed his gratitude to the council members for their warm hospitality towards him and the accompanying delegation. He acknowledged that the residents of the island had raised several important matters during a previous meeting, which were subsequently discussed in detail during the council meeting.

The council members highlighted seven urgent needs related to tourism development, coastline protection, development of a police station, a new council secretariat building, expansion of health services; including the introduction of dialysis facilities and establishment of an intensive care unit in the hospital, relocation of the powerhouse, enhancement of ferry services, and provision of suitable premises for the efficient functioning of the Quranic center's branch on the island.

Furthermore, the WDC raised concerns regarding the challenges faced in effectively operating the committee due to its composition. They said urgent attention is required to address these issues and ensure the proper functioning of the committee.

In response to the concerns raised by the council and WDC members, President Solih affirmed his commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders in order to effectively address the identified issues. He emphasized that the administration would prioritize the relocation of the powerhouse and the construction of the harbor, while also giving due importance to the development of the police station and the construction of a new building for the council secretariat.

After the council meeting, President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed visited the Faafu Atoll Hospital, where they interacted with the management and staff to gain insights into the challenges faced and the initiatives taken to improve healthcare services in the region. The president also inaugurated the newly established Tadrees Al-Quran Al-Kareem Quran class and toured the facility with the first lady. The facility currently caters to over 100 students, with two classrooms in operation. Originally founded in 1969, the institution has undergone significant transformations.
