Ballot boxes to be placed in eight countries for presidential election

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has announced its decision to set up ballot boxes in eight countries for the upcoming presidential election.

A total of 600 ballot boxes will be placed to accommodate the voting needs of citizens living in the Maldives and abroad. The decision to place ballot boxes in a particular country is based on the presence of at least 150 registered voters.

ECM said ballot boxes will be placed in Trivandrum and New Delhi in India, Colombo in Sri Lanka, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Singapore, Bangkok in Thailand, Tokyo in Japan, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, and London in the United Kingdom. The exact number of ballot boxes in each country will be determined after the re-registration process.

ECM said it will work to facilitate the participation of Maldivian citizens living abroad in the democratic process of electing the country's next president.
