Minister of Home Affairs, Imran Abdulla has underscored the government's dedication to preventing individuals from engaging in criminal activities. Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 9th Custodial Management and Security Programme, Minister Imran spoke on the need for continuous action in response to the growing number of people exposed to crime.
Addressing the graduates, Minister Imran acknowledged the crucial role they play in reintegrating individuals who have been exposed to crime back into society. He urged them to carry out their responsibilities with courage and emphasised the significance of their contribution.
Furthermore, Minister Imran highlighted the efforts made in the past five years to reform and enhance prisons, including the augmentation of human resources. He emphasized that structural changes have been implemented in prisons, resulting in the addition of 232 jail cells over the past five years, with another 180 cells currently being constructed.
The graduation ceremony saw a total of 51 officers from the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) completing the 9th Custodial Management and Security Programme, with 47 officers achieving distinctions. The programme aims to train officers capable of assisting in the rehabilitation of prisoners and facilitating their successful reintegration into society.
