The Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) teams have commenced trips to atolls in order to seek information required to formulate the manifesto for the upcoming presidential election.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is contesting in the upcoming presidential election on behalf of MDP. As, such, teams from MDP decided to travel to all the atolls in the country to formulate the policies proposed by President Solih for the presidential election.
Speaking at a press conference, Deputy Chairperson of MDP Ibrahim Waheed said the teams will make door-to-door visits to households to collect information. He also said that membership increase activities are scheduled.
Meanwhile, speaking at the press conference, Chairperson of MDP Fayyaz Ismail said the visits will identify what the government can do to improve the country and to identify the opinion of the public.
The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) decided to hold the presidential election on September 9 and a possible second round would be held on September 30. The electoral body also released the voters' list of individuals eligible to vote in the presidential election. A total of 282,755 people are eligible to vote. Candidates will be given the opportunity to campaign from August 10 to September 8.
