Minister of State for Environment, Climate Change and Technology Hassan Mughnee has been sacked for violating the ethical standards to be followed by those appointed to political positions.
The decision to dismiss Mughnee was made following his public tweet in which he levied serious allegations against President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and certain managing directors of government-owned companies. Subsequently, he was summoned to the President's Office before his removal from the position.
The Spokesperson for the President's Office Miuvaan Mohamed stated that Mughnee's dismissal was a result of his failure to uphold the ethical standards required of those appointed to political positions by the president.
Prior to his appointment as a State Minister, Mughnee served as the Managing Director of the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO). Mughnee was removed from his position and former President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives Ahmed Shareef was appointed as Managing Director of STELCO.
