The Maldives and Japan have reflected on the close historical relationship between the two countries and concurred to collaboratively cooperate towards further enhancement of bilateral and multilateral relations. The discussion took place during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Hayashi Yoshimasa, in Tokyo.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Shahid conveyed his appreciation for the continuous support and assistance provided to the people of Maldives by the government of Japan during the past five decades and reiterated the long-standing and friendly relationship between the Maldives and Japan. Foreign Minister Hayashi noted the strong bilateral relations that exist between the two countries and expressed his appreciation to the government of the Maldives for its cooperation with Japan on international and regional issues, especially in realising the Free and Open Indo-Pacific vision.
Foreign Minister Shahid is on an official visit to Japan to attend the Munich Leaders Meeting in Tokyo.
