Thinadhoo water drainage system installed successfully

Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology has revealed that the water drainage system in Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, to solve the problem of flooding during the rainy season has been installed successfully and tested.

The project was awarded to Senock Trade Combine Private Limited on October 13, 2019. The project was tasked to be completed in one year at a cost of USD1.2 million. However, the completion of the project was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and due to some changes to the project design. As a result of the changes, pump stations have been installed in different areas of the island and the environment ministry conducted testing of the water drainage system.

In addition to the establishment drainage system, the government is also working to modernise the roads in Thinadhoo. The project involves paving asphalt on 6.5km of roads, which is 14 roads in total. Road Development Corporation Limited
(RDC) paved asphalt on 9.2km of roads as part of the first phase of the project.

Thinadhoo is the most populous island in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll with a population of over 7,400 residents.
