Vice President Faisal Naseem has concluded his official visit to Bangladesh to attend the Sixth Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) 2023 and has returned back to the Maldives.
In Dhaka, Vice President Naseem delivered remarks at the inaugural session of the IOC held from May 12-13 and later met with the Maldivian community residing in Bangladesh. In addition, he attended a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina at the Intercontinental Hotel.
Furthermore, Vice President Naseem paid a courtesy call on the President of Bangladesh Mohammad Shahabuddin. The meeting was held at Bangabhaban, the Bangladeshi Presidential Palace. At the meeting, Vice President Naseem conveyed felicitations on behalf of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Shahabuddin on his appointment as the new President of Bangladesh. They shed light on the four and a half decades of diplomatic relations between the two countries and engaged in discussions pertinent to other topics of mutual interest.
The Maldives and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations on September 22, 1978.
