The State Trading Organization (STO) has announced a reduction in the price of jet fuel supplied to Maafaru International Airport, amid the introduction of their new dedicated barge, Laganaa.
Previously, STO encountered challenges in delivering jet fuel to Maafaru International Airport due to the absence of a specialized barge. Jet fuel requires specific handling and transportation procedures to maintain its quality, unlike other fuels distributed by the company. STO emphasized the need for special equipment and vehicles to ensure the safe transport of jet fuel.
In an interview aired on PSM News, Mohamed Shuaib Ahmed, Terminal Manager at the Energy Department, explained that previously STO used to transport jet fuel in barrels, which was a cumbersome and labor-intensive process. However, with the operationalization of the new barge, the task has become significantly easier. The barge can now be directly refueled and transported to the airport, streamlining the supply process.
STO launched the Maldives' first dedicated barge for supplying Jet A-1 fuel to refueling stations nationwide on April 30th.
Additionally, Maafaru Airport and STO have signed an agreement for jet fuel supply. STO highlighted that this agreement will result in a more affordable price for jet fuel compared to previous rates. Maafaru International Airport is known for its arrival of the significant number of private jets.
STO further specified that Laganaa has a capacity of 200cbm and is equipped with advanced measuring instruments. It has been commissioned with industry-standard aviation filters, adhering to relevant quality assurance codes. It is the first barge of its kind in the Maldives to be equipped with such filters, signifying enhanced quality and safety standards.
