MIRA revenue in April lower than forecast

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has collected USD120.6 million as revenue in April 2023, which is an increase of 13.2% compared to the same period last year. However, it is a decrease of 11.2% compared to the amount forecast.

The latest statistics published by MIRA reveal that the increase in revenue in April compared to the same month last year was mainly due to higher revenue from Goods and Services Tax (GST), Income Tax, Tourism Land Rent, and Green Tax. In addition, GST revenue increased due to the change in the rate. The number of tourists visiting the Maldives in March 2023 increased by 15.1% compared to March 2022.

The statistics also showed that the main reason for the lower revenue than the forecast amount was due to the lower revenue from GST, Tourism Land Rent, and Airport Development Fees. MIRA collected USD7.5 million as Income Tax, USD6.1 million as Green Tax, USD4.8 million as Airport Development Fee, and USD12.7 million as other taxes and fees.
