MPL opens applications for first phase of community fund

The Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has opened applications for proposals for the first phase of the Port Community Fund to support local charities and establish a mutually supportive relationship with the local community.

The first phase of the fund was opened in April and the deadline for applications is May 31. MPL also appointed a special committee to determine the beneficiaries of the fund.

MPL will give priority to projects proposed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN). As such, 40% will be awarded for projects that achieve the SDGs, 20% for productive projects, and 30% for project planning and implementation. The remaining 10% marks will be awarded for the profile of the proposal.

Under the fund, MPL allocated USD38,810 annually for various social causes, which falls into two phases. The first phase includes short-term projects of less than three months. A total of eight projects will be selected from the category and will be granted USD3,242 each. The second phase is for projects that have a duration of less than 12 months. As such, two projects will be selected and will receive USD6,485 each.
