No confidence motions are submitted to deceive public: Gov't

The Spokesperson at the President's Office Miuvaan Mohamed has stated it is unclear how many votes the opposition will receive for the no confidence motions against various government officials. He made the remarks while speaking after a no-confidence motion was submitted against Attorney General (AG) Ibrahim Riffath following the outcome of the Chagos case.

Speaking at a press conference, Miuvaan said the opposition is trying to deceive the public by submitting a no-confidence motion against government officials. He said the no confidence motions are not submitted to the Parliament with the expectation of winning and the opposition has no hope of winning a no confidence vote.

Furthermore, Miuvaan said the letter exchanged by the Maldives and Mauritius was allegedly intended to influence the maritime boundary dispute, adding that both countries had already submitted all the required documents to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) before the date of the sending of the letter. He, therefore, said that individuals are trying to achieve political gain by spreading misinformation.
