MRM members leave party to support President for re-election

Members of the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) have decided to leave the party and support President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for his re-election.

A total of eight senior members announced their departure from MRM and issued a statement signed by them thanking the founder of the MRM, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, for his support. MRM also issued a statement on the departure of the members and thanked them for their support for the party.

In the statement, MRM said the members were sent to political positions because they were capable. Therefore, the party wishes them to remain in the government positions they are still holding. MRM said the party will continue to work for the national interest and the welfare of the public. There is no decision yet on how MRM will proceed in the upcoming presidential election. MRM has yet to decide whether it will partner with Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) again for the upcoming presidential election.
