City council to begin renovating Masjid al-Ta’aawun

Male' City Council has decided to renovate and address the space constraints of Masjid al-Ta'awun.

The city council held a meeting and discussed the expansion of the women's prayer area and the development of a waiting area for visitors in Masjid al-Ta'awun. The cemetery in the mosque was established after four other cemeteries in Male' City became filled up and unusable to the public.

Speaking at a press conference, the Mayor of Male' City Mohamed Muizzu said that the council decided to renovate the mosque because it has the only cemetery in use in Male'. He also said the council had been receiving complaints about the lack of space in the area designated for prayer inside the mosque. Therefore, he said that the space used by women for prayer will be increased. In addition, he said the women's ablution area will be renovated and the space will be increased.

Furthermore, Muizzu stated that the council also received complaints about the lack of space in the waiting area in the mosque. In addition, he said that the burial sites will not be disturbed during the renovation process. He also said that the design work for the cemetery has been completed.
