Humam's death sentence appealed in Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of the Maldives has appealed the death sentence passed on Hussain Humam by the High Court of the Maldives for the brutal murder of Dr. Afrasheem Ali.

A former parliamentarian and religious scholar, Afrasheem, was killed outside his home on the night of October 1, 2012. Humam was convicted of the murder and sentenced to death by the Supreme Court in 2016. The accused filed an appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court in April. The Supreme Court has not yet decided whether to accept the case.

Humam has been in prison for more than 11 years in connection with the murder of Dr. Afrasheem.
