The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has received 1,000 applications for individuals seeking to become officials for the upcoming presidential election, but an additional 4,600 officials are needed.
ECM stated that 5,600 supervisors, officials, coordinators, human resource officials, observers, and employees for various other types of work for the election on September 9. ECM said it has made it easier for applicants to submit forms. As such, ECM stated that applications can be made online and the deadline for the submission of applications is on June 22.
Speaking to PSM News, Chairman of ECM Fuad Thaufeeq said the forms received so far are being considered and the officials are being appointed. He said that many individuals are submitting the certificates with the application form. He said ECM will give the opportunity to individuals to submit a CV if they do not have certificates. In addition, he said that anyone of any political mindset will have the opportunity to become an official. He, however, said that ECM will not give that opportunity to those in charge of political affairs. He also said the position will not be given to candidates belonging to different parties except on an equal basis.
ECM stated that 282,755 people are eligible to vote in this year's presidential election. ECM also opened the opportunity to submit complaints on the voters' list.
