MTCC begins field work to develop Narudhoo harbour

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the fieldwork for the harbour development project of Narudhoo, Shaviyani Atoll.

The project was awarded to MTCC on April 2022 at a price of USD2.8 million. The fieldwork for the project began on May 4 after the mobilisation of equipment to the site. The scope of the project includes harbor dredging operations of 51,212cbm, channel dredging operations of 4120cbm, construction of a 371m breakwater, a 205m revetment, a 210m quay wall, a ramp, installation of 955sqm harbor pavement and installation of harbour lights.

President of Narudhoo Council President Mohamed Mustharushid said the development of the harbour would solve the problem of navigation of vessels at sea. He said the inconvenience faced by boats and large ships entering and leaving the area will come to an end. In addition, he said many fishing vessels also dock on the island. He, however, said that some boats leave due to the lack of space in the harbour.
