Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) has announced preparation to resume the development of a road network in Kulhudhuffushi City.
The development of the roads in Kulhudhuffushi started on March 2022. Some roads were excavated and the project came to a halt to take into account additional design changes submitted by the Kulhudhuffushi City Council for the scope of the project.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of RDC Moosa Ali Manik said the council had proposed to build a dewatering network and install fire hydrants on the island. He also said the pipe required for the fire hydrant will be provided by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
Additionally, Manik said there is criticism for delays in the project. He, however, said that the main reason for delays was that changes had to be made after work on the project began and the designs had to be finalised before work on the project resumed. As such, he said the scope of the project has been changed to include the proposals made by the council. The casting work and pavement construction for the road is currently underway at the RDC site.
The project is scheduled to be completed within one year and four months. The project is worth USD6.4 million.
