NCTC begins workshop to review National Action Plan

The National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) has commenced a workshop to review the National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism.

The two-day workshop is being held with financial assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and is aimed at enhancing inter-agency collaboration, identifying challenges and ways forward in implementing the plan.

At the workshop, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan highlighted the importance of acknowledging and responding to extremism and terrorism in the Maldives. He expressed confidence that meetings such as the workshop will allow authorities to share information and work together to stop the spread of extremism.

Also at the workshop, Brigadier General (Rtd) Zakariyya Mansoor noted the national-level initiatives commenced to prevent terrorism under the National Action Plan. As such, NCTC has held 19 meetings and shared information on extremism and terrorism to 13,890 individuals with assistance from the relevant authorities.
