President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has awarded the Presidential Medals to five police officers. He presented the awards at the ceremony held to mark the 90th anniversary of the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
At the ceremony, President Solih awarded the Presidential Medals to Assistant Commissioner Ali Shujau, Chief Superintendents Hussain Rasheed, Moosa Ali, and Mohamed Dawood, as well as Chief Inspector Ali Ahmed. The president also awarded Presidential Ribbons to Chief Inspectors Ibrahim Zahir, Abdul Matheen Abdul Kareem, Abdulla Rasheed, and Mohamed Shareef, Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Riyaz, as well as Chief Superintendents Ibrahim Adnan Anees and Ahmed Athif.
Additionally, President Solih presented plaques of appreciation to long-serving employees and those who significantly contributed to MPS, including Assistant Commissioner (Rtd) Hussain Shakir for 45 years of service. He also unveiled the Commemorative Coin, honoring the 90th anniversary of the police service.
Also at the ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla awarded plaques of appreciation to Deputy Commissioner (Rtd) Abdul Shakoor Abdulla, Chief Superintendent (Rtd) Ibrahim Khaleel, and Chief Inspector (Rtd) Abdul Samad Abdulla, honoring their services rendered to MPS for over 40 years. Minister Imran also presented the Pride and Merit awards for the seven exemplary officers who have made the police service proud with their outstanding accomplishments.
MPS was established on March 29, 1933, under the nation's first constitution. On September 1, 2004, the police service was separated from the military and established as a civil service.
