President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to increase the salaries of officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). He made the remark at the ceremony held to mark the 90th anniversary of MPS at the synthetic track in Hulhumale’.
At the ceremony, President Solih emphasised the noteworthy progress and improvements that MPS underwent, noting the separation from the military and its establishment as a civil service. He added that improving the quality of police services should always be a top government priority as the police service grows and adapts to societal changes and changing mindsets.
Additionally, President Solih highlighted the changes made to the salary structure in the education sector as part of the administration’s efforts to reform state institutions. He said that the salary of health workers will be increased in May and that the National Pay Commission is working to implement changes to the salary structures of MPS and MNDF.
As such, President Solih said the pay commission is conducting the relevant surveys to implement pay harmonisation for the security services which will bring positive changes to the salaries of all workers. He also highlighted the concerns regarding housing and said that police officers will receive flats under the Blue Housing Scheme after the government decreases their prices.
