The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has elected three new members.
The MMC by-election was held following the resignation of two members and the expiration of the term of another member. The voting took place between 1000-1100hrs in a polling station set up on the ground floor of the Velana Building on April 29. MMC elected a representative of the media and two representatives of the general public. A total of two candidates contested for the position of media representative. Among them, Ali Adam who contested from Habaru Online won the election with 64 votes.
The remaining two slots were won by Jailam Thaufeeq with 49 votes, and Ali Ismail with 43 votes. MMC members are elected for a two-year term.
