Any country considers 200 miles of its surrounding waters as Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ), according to international law. There is a 95,000sqkm EEZ between the Maldives and the Chagos Archipelago. Until now, no EEZ has been established in the southern part of the Maldives. However, the issue was resolved and the sovereign territory has been established following the decision made by ITLOS.
