Parliament goes to recess after completing majority of work

The Parliament of the Maldives has gone to recess after completing the majority of the work during the first session of the year.

During the last sitting of the first session, the Parliament placed four reports forwarded by committees on the agenda and voted on two of the reports. The Parliament also voted to accept the Bill on Amendment to the Sports Act for consideration and voted to reject the resolution on the vice president taking the president’s oath.

Additionally, the Parliament went to recess while the amendment bill to solve public concerns over the plastic bag fee was in the debate stage. The Parliament will begin the second session on May 16.
