State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has said that the electricity bill of 75% of households in the Greater Male' Region will be higher in April compared to previous months due to the hot weather.
Every year, the hottest months in the Maldives are from February to June. STELCO stated that the consumption of electricity during the period is higher than in other months of the year. The state-owned company also received complaints about high electricity bills during the period.
STELCO stated that the electricity bills of 75% of households in the Greater Male' Region will be higher than in other months. As such, the average amount is expected to be about USD32 higher. STELCO stated that electricity consumption has increased to a record level due to the hot weather. Therefore, the company has formed a special team to ensure that the electricity services are not interrupted.
