Gov’t seeks contractor for Hoarafushi Hospital project

The Ministry of Finance is seeking a contractor to upgrade the health centre in Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll, to a hospital.

The finance ministry is seeking a contractor under a National Competitive Bidding (NCB) policy. The ministry stated that interested companies are required to submit a bid security of USD279,000 and that the bids will be opened on May 4.

Hoarafushi has a population of 3,500 residents and the administration has completed numerous projects on the island including the development of the airport, football grounds, coastal protection structures, and the ice plant. In addition, the projects to build a water bottling plant are nearing completion while the development of an island council office building, roads, volleyball court, and the juvenile justice unit branch are ongoing.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to develop a hospital in Hoarafushi and funds have been allocated for the project in the state budget this year. During his visit in January, President Solih vowed that he will return to the island after the hospital is built.
