Health Protection Agency (HPA) has advised pilgrims to seek medical attention immediately if they develop flu and viral fever within 14 days of returning to the Maldives from the Umrah pilgrimage.
The highest number of individuals went for Umrah pilgrimages this year. Individuals who went for Umrah in the last ten days of Ramadan have now begun arriving. In general, most individuals that arrive after Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage are sick. Therefore, HPA issued a statement on the precautions to be taken by the pilgrims and their families as it may spread. HPA has asked to seek immediate medical attention if a pilgrim experiences difficulty in breathing and coughs within 14 days of their return to Maldives. HPA also asked pilgrims to notify doctors of their return from their pilgrimages.
Furthermore, HPA appealed to cover the nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing. HPA also highlighted the importance of safely eliminating tissues and handkerchiefs used when down with flu or cold to avoid the spread of diseases. Moreover, the authority advised to wash hands frequently and to avoid the use of medicine without consulting doctors.
In recent weeks, more than 2,000 pilgrims from more than 14 companies went to perform the Umrah pilgrimage from the Maldives. The highest number of pilgrims went during the last 10 days of Ramadan. The pilgrims are scheduled to arrive back in the Maldives by May 5.
