MCI to hold Coral Festival 2023 in Hithadhoo

The Maldives Coral Institute (MCI) has decided to hold Coral Festival 2023 in Hithadhoo, Addu City.

The three-day festival, which will be held from April 28-30, aims to recognise the importance of coral reefs in the Maldives and how to conserve them. The festival will be attended by coral experts, relevant Maldivian private associations, and political leaders. The festival is scheduled to be held at the Maldives National University (MNU) campus in Hithadhoo.

MCI stated that the festival will discuss how to protect s coral reefs in a sustainable manner due to climate change. In addition, the festival will feature music, culture, food stalls, and sports activities for children. The first two days of the Coral Festival 2023 will be held at the MNU campus in Hithadhoo.

Speaking about this year's festival, Vice Chairperson of MCI Aya Mariyam Rahil Naseem said that the reality of the coral reefs in the Maldives cannot be protected without proper understanding.

The third day of the festival will include snorkeling at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Nature Park in Addu and a visit to the Nature Park area in Hulhumeedhoo. The festival will also be attended by leaders of various political parties to seek views on how to protect the environment in the Maldives.
