MFDA orders staple food warehouses to be registered

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has ordered the registration of staple food warehouses in the country.

MFDA stated that the warehouses are required to register with the authority to strengthen the regulatory system to ensure the safety of staple food. Rice, sugar, and flour are commonly consumed as staple foods in the Maldives.

MFDA is currently conducting inspections of such warehouses. However, registration has been ordered to identify and inspect the number of such premises on a special basis. As such, warehouses have been requested to register with MFDA before August 1.

In addition, MFDA stated the condition of such warehouses will be checked regularly every six months or at a specified period after it has been registered. The space, cleanliness, and temperature of the warehouses will be considered during the inspections.
