National Drug Agency (NDA) has sent over 50 street drug addicts in Male’ to various rehabilitation centres. NDA stated that the individuals were found begging or committing crimes in Male’ in order to support their addiction.
Speaking to PSM News, Chairman of NDA Shamau Shareef said 53 drug addicts have been taken from the streets of Male’ and sent to various rehabilitation centres. He highlighted that 10 of the individuals had nothing but their clothes and were begging to support their addiction, while 43 individuals were committing crimes.
Additionally, Shamau said some of the individuals sent to rehabilitation centers had severe illnesses and are now on a strict treatment regimen. He also noted that some were found lying on the streets or were malnourished due to consuming nothing but drugs.
