The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has launched a special operation to inspect marine vessels during the Eid al-Fitr holidays.
The operation under the name Operation Fitr 2023 was launched by the officers of the Male’ Area Coast Guard squadron. MNDF said officers will inspect vessels from April 19-24 to ensure the safety of travellers, as a large number of Maldivians travel by sea during the holidays. As part of the operation, officers will verify whether the vessels are adhering to the guidelines set by the safety certificate and will check the marine VHF radio and the license and credentials of the captains. MNDF stated the officers will inspect vessels coming in and leaving Male’ City during the operation.
MNDF and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) aims to ensure all marine vessels carrying passengers have the necessary safety equipment and resources and are following the required safety protocols.
