Ministry of Higher Education has announced the opportunity to apply for seven scholarships under the Medical Doctors Specialisation Scholarship 2023.
The deadline for these scholarships is open until May 4 and applications should be submitted through the MyEdu portal. The higher education ministry stated that all expenses incurred in these scholarships will be covered by the government of the Maldives with opportunities to study in 21 countries.
The scholarship provides the opportunity to study Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Spine Surgery, Pediatric Pulmonology, Gynecology, General Surgery, and Pediatrics. An opportunity has been opened in each of these seven fields. The countries offered in these courses include Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Pakistan. The courses are open to Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) holders, and those applying for Pediatric Pulmonology with a specialty in Pediatrics. Individuals are also required to be registered with the Maldives Medical and Dental Council.
The higher education ministry stated that priority will be given to candidates who agree to serve in the atolls in the Maldives for a stipulated period after completing their studies on the scholarship. However, if more candidates agree to serve in the atolls than the number of vacancies opened, priority will be given to the candidates who have completed MBBS and have served in a health service provider. In case of equal length of service, candidates will be selected in the order of highest points awarded for academic merit.
