State Trading Organisation (STO) has signed on as a platinum sponsor of the Student Journalism Programme launched by the Maldives Media Council (MMC).
MMC stated it was thrilled to announce the partnership with STO and looks forward to empowering young journalists with invaluable opportunities. It also thanked senior officials of STO for being the first company to sponsor an initiative of the media council.
The Student Journalism Programme was launched in February and sessions have so far been held in two schools with 50 students. Further sessions will be held in schools in Haa Alifu Atoll and Haa Dhaalu Atoll with trainers consisting of experienced journalists and experts in the field.
MMC has stated that the main objective of the Student Journalism Programme is to build a new generation of journalists in the Maldives by creating interest and awareness in journalism for students. It stated that journalists in the country historically began their careers during their school days, and therefore, the aim is to provide training for students interested in journalism.
