The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has brought in a new ship to replace the Coast Guard Ship (CGS) Huravee.
MNDF stated that the new ship, donated by India, has more operational capacity than CGS Huravee, which will be decommissioned after the new ship is officially handed over to the Maldives in May. CGS Huravee was donated by India in 2006 and became the largest ship in the MNDF Coast Guard fleet. The ship has been refitted six times at the Indian Naval Dockyard.
Maldivian military officers are currently being trained on operating the machinery and equipment on the new ship. MNDF stated that the Indian navy crew on the ship will return after the officers complete the two-week training programme.
