Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has stated that the complaints of rising prices of goods in the market due to the non-clearance of imported goods have come to an end with the fast service provided by commercial harbours.
MPL is working to expedite the services provided by its commercial harbours. The state-owned company also makes changes to its services and makes extra efforts to speed up the clearance of goods, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
Head of Cargo Clearance, Assistant General Manager Thollath Saeed said the temporary sheds set up in Male' Commercial Harbour and the Hulhumale' Commercial Harbour to store food items have sped up the clearance of goods. In addition, he said that MPL has made arrangements for stall owners and traders to clear their goods quickly during Ramadan. He also noted that the complaints of prices increasing in the market due to the failure to clear the goods have come to an end.
MPL gave priority to clearing goods based on the working hours permitted by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation during Ramadan. MPL also brought in additional vehicles to boost output at the Male’ Commercial Harbour.
