PGO denies accusation ex-President Yameen's case is being influenced

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has denied the accusation made by the main opposition that the court case involving former President Abdulla Yameen is being influenced.

In a message to media outlets, the PGO stated that a meeting was held with senior members of the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) to give an update on Yameen’s legal proceedings. The PGO stated that it had expressed its wish for a quick conclusion of Yameen’s appeal case, but that the process was being drawn out due to the failure of Yameen’s defence to submit the necessary documents.

Additionally, the PGO stated that it will give its full support to reach a verdict quickly but denied the opposition’s statement to the media that the PGO had informed that the case is being influenced. The PGO clarified that the claim was made by the opposition members themselves during the meeting.

Furthermore, the PGO stated that further discussions during the meeting centered around complaints related to Yameen’s prison condition. The PGO stated that it had informed the opposition members that the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) was responsible for addressing such concerns.
