The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has revealed that it will begin its presidential campaign after the month of Ramadan.
Speaking to PSM News, Chairperson of MDP Fayyaz Ismail said the main ruling party will begin its presidential campaign and formulate its manifesto at the end of the fasting month. He noted that the party has been preparing for the presidential election much earlier and is implementing its long-term plan to win the election.
Additionally, Fayyaz said that MDP fulfills its pledges to meet the expectation of citizens and that its future policies and manifesto will reflect the opinions and wishes of the people. He added that MDP will be sending out teams to gather information before beginning its work to formulate the manifesto.
The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has announced that the presidential election will be held on September 9 and a possible second round will be on September 30. MDP awarded the presidential ticket to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to contest the election on behalf of the main ruling party.
Furthermore, MDP has been in discussions with party leaders to form a coalition to decisively win the presidential election. The parties that have so far agreed to join the coalition are Adhaalath Party (AP) and the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
