Youth Minister concerned over overburdened contractors

Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof has expressed concern over contractors being overburdened with projects with large scopes. He made the remark while responding to questions at the Parliament of the Maldives.

At the sitting, Minister Mahloof responded to a question concerning the delay in completing the Veymandoo Youth Centre by saying that the contract was terminated after the contractor failed to complete the project within the deadline. He noted that the biggest hindrance in developing sports resources in the atolls is the inability of contractors to complete projects on time due to the overwhelming number of tasks and the increase in scope.

Additionally, Minister Mahloof said that many projects are progressing at a fast pace but that a large scope will lead to some contractors failing to complete projects as scheduled. He also said that the sports sector has seen unprecedented development in the past four years and that the ministry aims to develop sports resources in a way that meets the expectations of citizens.
