The National Awards Committee has received records of civil servants who have served the state for over 45 years. The government began searching for the records to recognise long-serving civil servants who have not yet received any awards.
Speaking to PSM News, Chairperson of the National Awards Committee Aneesa Ahmed said the President’s Office has submitted a list of long-serving civil servants and that the committee is currently interviewing them and gathering more information. She said the committee will be choosing which candidates to award after the evaluation process.
Speaking at the function held in February to confer the National Award for Public Service, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the President’s Office is seeking records of civil servants who have served for over 45 years to forward them to the National Awards Committee. He said that the award has been conferred to 309 recipients so far but that there are still 70 individuals who have not received the award despite serving the nation for over 45 years. He said the biggest challenge they face in submitting their nominations is the lack of records, as they began their service decades earlier.
Additionally, President Solih noted that many government offices were dissolved in the past few years, which makes it difficult for institutions to gather the necessary records to nominate employees. He also said that many individuals wish to nominate themselves for the award.
