EPA urges residents to avoid placing waste on streets

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has urged residents to avoid placing waste on the streets despite instructions from waste management services.

In a press release, EPA expressed concern over the large amount of waste being placed outside of households and businesses in Male’. EPA stated that this leads to an unclean environment and hindrances to pedestrians and drivers traveling on the narrow streets. The agency also highlighted the issue of residents and workers indiscriminately dumping bulk waste on streets without knowing the scheduled collection times. EPA added that waste management services should not instruct customers to place waste on the streets for collection and that customers should not follow any such instructions.

In response, Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) clarified that it has not instructed customers to place their waste bags on the streets and that its workers go to households for collection and warn customers who place their waste outside.
