Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the values of human rights and democracy. He made the remarks during a meeting with the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
During the meeting, the President of HRCM Mariyam Muna briefed Minister Shahid on the work undertaken by the commission over the past three years to improve the human rights situation in the Maldives. Both sides discussed the importance of promoting and protecting human rights at home and agreed to work closely together to effectively address shared interests and goals internationally. Minister Shahid also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the values of human rights and democracy.
HRCM is the first independent and autonomous statutory body in the Maldives. The commission aims to champion human rights by promoting and protecting dignity, diversity, and equality within the Maldives.
