Gov’t says officials who do not fulfill obligations will be dismissed

The President’s Office has stated that the government has the authority to dismiss state officials who do not fulfill their obligations.

At a press conference, Spokesperson at the President’s Office Miuvaan Mohamed said the government does not threaten to dismiss its employees unlike previous administrations but will dismiss political appointees who do not abide by the administration’s policies. He noted that the president has the authority to make political appointments that are based on his policies and to dismiss them if they fail to fulfill their obligations.

Additionally, Spokesperson Miuvaan said that political appointees who criticise the government’s policies while tasked with implementing them are compromised and will be unable to fulfill their obligations, as political positions are different from an ordinary job. He highlighted that the government will not take action on civil servants and other government employees based on their political affiliations.

Spokesperson Miuvaan also said that the administration will hold discussions with Jumhooree Party (JP) after it registers its candidate, and take action on political appointees affiliated with the party.
