Defence Minister affirms she fulfilled her responsibilities

Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi has stated that she has fulfilled her responsibilities in accordance with the law and refutes the claim that she has failed in her tasks. She made the remark while responding to questions at the Parliament of the Maldives.

At the sitting, Parliamentarian Ahmed Siyam questioned her on the terrorist attack against Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed on May 6, 2021, and the decision to allow foreign military personnel to be stationed in the Maldives. In response, Minister Mariya detailed her responsibilities as a minister and said that all actions were taken in accordance with the law. She said that none of her decisions has led to any harm to the country or citizens and that she encourages parliamentarians to take action against her if they believe that she has failed in her tasks.

Furthermore, Minister Mariya responded to a question regarding the incident in which a crowd stopped the president’s motorcade. She said that the Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services is investigating the incident and that the defence ministry is not responsible for assigning the routes and travel of the president’s motorcade.
