Court registers Ex-President Yameen’s appeal of 11-year sentence

High Court of the Maldives has registered the case submitted by former President Abdulla Yameen to appeal his 11-year prison sentence.

On December 25, the Criminal Court of the Maldives sentenced former President Yameen to 11 years in prison after finding him guilty of charges of money laundering and accepting bribes in relation to the lease of Aarah, Vaavu Atoll, for resort development through the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). He appealed the verdict in the High Court on February 21.

The High Court initially requested Yameen's lawyers to make corrections to some parts of the appeal documents. The appeal was registered at the High Court after it was re-submitted March.
