Ambassador Asim endorses President for re-election

Dr. Asim Ahmed, the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations (UN) Office in Geneva, Switzerland, has revealed that he will be supporting President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in his re-election bid.

In a tweet, Dr. Asim said that he decided to support President Solih in order to maintain social cohesion and continue the developmental initiatives commenced by the president. Dr. Asim is a member of the Jumhooree Party (JP) and was the Minister of Education during the administration of President Mohamed Waheed.

Several ambassadors have come out in support of President Solih, including Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Palestine Mohamed Khaleel, who said that the Islamic world supports his foreign policy. In addition, Ambassador to Malaysia Ali Hussain Didi said that President Solih has established peace and stability which has allowed the Maldives to successfully pursue sustainable development.

Many senior government officials who received their positions in the JP slot have also come out in support of President Solih. JP, which is part of the ruling government coalition, has decided to award its presidential ticket to its Leader Qasim Ibrahim and contest the upcoming presidential election as the leader of its own coalition.
