The Civil Service Commission of the Maldives (CSC) has announced the recruitment of 38 Secretaries-General (SGs) for local councils.
CSC first opened applications for the SG position for the secretariats of 200 councils in June 2021. However, only 159 SGs have been appointed as of January this year. CSC noted that the resignation of SGs in some councils is making it difficult to fill the positions.
CSC has now announced seeking SGs for all 38 island councils except for the islands in three atolls. CSC announced that eligible candidates are invited to apply for two ranks of SGs for five-year terms. The salary of the first rank is USD1,044 and the salary of the second rank is USD796.
CSC has changed the requirements from a degree holder to the level of diploma to apply, due to the difficulty in recruiting SGs. The opportunity is open for individuals who wish to submit their applications until 1300hrs on April 13. CSC has also published the responsibilities, and rules for the submission of application forms in the Government Gazette.
The SG is the highest administrative position in the local council and is responsible for handling the administrative and financial tasks of the council.
